A Few Tidbits on My Personal History
1) I grew up in the Hawaiian island of Oahu. In my teenage years, I surfed the big waves of the North Shore.
2) When I moved to the "mainland" for university, my adventurous ways continued. I grew fascinated with mountains and rivers. I trained and eventually worked as a white water river guide on several rivers within the Sierras and Rockies.
3) After college, I migrated to the Southwest. In that vast and majestic landscape, I became deeply involved with a vital community of poets, play-writes, and actors. Together we produced poetry slams, shot films, and performed plays.
4) I've traveled extensively. I've made my way through most of the wild open country of the Western US. I explored the old cultures of Europe. I traversed rice terraces and rivers of Asia. I hiked the rugged mountains of Central and South America. I've lived abroad on the amazing island of Bali and also in Southern Brazil.
5) At the behest of my spiritual mentor, I constructed a stone cabin in a cliff face and meditated there for several years. It was a profound experience. I became so connected to the land and animals. Ravens were constant companions. They would land next to me, look at me with sideways glances, and then make all kinds of interesting sounds. A fox once accidentally sat in my lap. A rattlesnake slithered across my foot. On my daily walks, I ran into over a dozen black bear!
